60007 Sir Nigel Gresley, LNER Class A4 4-6-2

Photographed at Bewdley, Worcestershire, on the morning of 6 March 2009. This was taken just before 60007 went light engine to Kidderminster at 09:45 to take the first train of the day (travelling tender first) down to Bridgnorth. Although Bridgnorth is north of Kidderminster, "down" trains are those departing from Kidderminster and "up" trains are those departing from Bridgnorth. Such is the convention on the Severn Valley Railway.
Several volunteers had just spent about an hour polishing the locomotive, note that even the buffers are sparkling!

A couple of small details:
1. The driving wheels are replacements, taken from No. 60006 Miles Beevor. 60007's original wheels were scrapped at Hughes Bolckow, Blyth, at the end of 1967.
2. The smokebox numberplate has a curly'6'. This design error was only corrected on 18 of the class (compare with the '6' on the side of the cab.)
