Class 47 diesel locomotive

Photo of a Class 47 Co-Co Diesel-Electric Locomotive.

The British Rail Class 47 (or Brush Type 4) is a diesel-electric locomotive developed in the 1960s by Brush Traction. They were either built at Crewe Works or at Brush's Falcon Works. In total 512 were built between 1962 and 1968.

Over 40 years later there are still some working on the mainline. There are quite a few photos of them on this site. Have a look at picture #5725 and picture #2995.
