GCR 4-4-0 Director class 506 Butler Henderson

Photographed on 6 February 2004 at the National Railway Museum, York. When I was a schoolboy in Lincoln I often saw this locomotive (in dirty black BR livery) at St Mark's Station (now long since demolished) on trains to and from Newark and Nottingham. About 40 years later I saw it in these colours at Loughborough, and had no idea it had been rescued and was in steam again! That was a very happy day for me.

This locomotive carried the train through to Derby regularly and was a common sight passing through Trent Junction. Memories of England from a Canadian near Niagara Falls
