Gothenburg Tram Trailer No. 240 rear end
The conductor keeps watch as vetran tram no. 240 departs from Käringberget on its way into Gothenburg from Saltholmen.
Spårvägssällskapet Ringlinien (Ringlinien Tramway Society) is a non-profit organisation, which run vintage trams in the city of Göteborg during the summer. To celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Saltholmen route, the Society put many of its old trams into service for the day, on 5 April 2008, offering free rides.
No. 240 is a replica of the long platform tram trailers that were common in Gothenburg in the 1930s and 1940s. It is similar to No. 133 (see picture #3410
) but without the motors and driving equipment.
This trailer was delivered in 1920 as M4 no. 132 and had its platforms lengthened (to type M5) in 1925.
Since no S8 trailers survived, it was decided to rebuild this trailer (which had become work trailer no. 112 in 1964) to represent the type, in 1975.
Originally ASEA built 20 S8 trailers, all of which were eventually scrapped. As a replica S8, no. 240 has the followuing dimensions:
Length: 10.28 m, Width: 2.00 m, Height: 3.8 m
Wheelbase: 2.6 m, Weight: 8,800 kg
Passengers: 20 seated, 40 standing
