South African Railways Class 25NC
This is the first of a series of photographs sent to Marcel by Selina Jackson, many thanks Selina a very interesting selection.
Number 3512 is, to the best of my knowledge, a South African Railways class 25NC 4-8-4. The NC stands for Non Condensing, the condensing 25's having a distinct banjo shaped smoke box door.
The location is Heun'kloof in South Africa but so far I have not located it on my maps.
The train is a south-bound pick-up goods which rather puts to shame the size of the UK pick-up goods that I remember.
The date is a best guess.
3511 has been preserved at Kimberley.
Built by North British between 1953 and 1955.
