Day time sleeper

7/8/2012. Dawlish- Devon - UK

57603 failed on last night's Night Riviera from Penzance near Gwinear Road and the entire train had to be towed back to Penzance.
The service was replaced by an HST which departed Penzance at 3.20am.
I bet that pleased the punters who were expecting a good night's sleep in a bunk!
57605 which had been on the Paddington-Penzance NR sleeper is seen here passing Dawlish at 1pm with the empty sleeper stock and the errant 57603 returning to Paddington in readiness for tonight's working.

57603 - Tintagel Castle
57605 - Totnes Castle
As you well know, John, my night sleeper from Paddington (see picture #13595 showing 57604 Pendennis Castle) was also considerably delayed! However it wasn't a locomotive fault that time.

The four Class 57/6 locomotives used by First Great Western are to be overhauled by RVEL at Derby. The first to be dealt with is 57603 Tintagel Castle, which should be completed by mid-January 2014. The bogies will be overhauled at Brush Loughborough. Work on all four locomotives should be completed by the middle of the year.
