LSWR Beattie 2-4-0WT Well tank 30587

Photographed in the engine shed at Bodmin General on 6 March 2012.
This locomotive had just returned from working on the London Underground in the early hours of Sunday 26 February. It was used on a test train to see if steam haulage on the modern Underground was feasible - and it is! Although the test mostly took place while the Underground was closed to the public, the final few minutes were spent at Earls Court station just as it was opening, and there were quite a few startled passengers who could hardly believe their eyes!
There will thus be a 'Steam on the Met' event on the May Day Bank Holiday weekend in 2013.
