Diesel generator fitted DVT

82304 is the first of Chiltern Railways Mainline DVT's to be fitted with a diesel generator.
This is due to previous noise complaints at outstations overnight and the use of fuel on the loco attached at the other end of the set running out too early.
The slots on the side which used to be an area for an opening door are an air intake/breather for where the generator sits inside an acoustic compartment. This generator also supplies air throughout the train so as to keep the air to the doors.
Another DVT, 82301 was put into service on 16.01.12. The blue/white DVT, 82302 has now been removed from service to undergo the same treatment.
