Class 380 gangways

Referring to picture #12803 and the remarks about the gangways. This is 380010 and 380110 at Glasgow Central showing the unusual profile when joined up. This operation has been fraught with difficulty and as a result there are not many 6 or 7 car formations to be seen unless it has been ironed out now.

I remember being on a packed 380 on a journey to Greenock for the Tall Ships in July and a vioce came over the onboard tannoy that people getting off the train at the next station should move forward the train as the platform is too small for the length of train.... easier said than done having to negotiate the busy centre aisle.

Yes, this is a feature of the formations now. The trains have Selective Door Opening (SDR) which the driver can initiate for stations where the platforms are too short. I'm sure I've seen markers for 3, 4, and 7 Car (SDR) on platforms.
