Underground Mining Locomotive No. 14

Photographed at the National Railway Museum branch museum, Locomotion, at Shildon, on 19 May 2011.
Built by Hudswell Clarke of Leeds in 1961, this diesel mechanical locomotive was used for coal haulage and materials handling in Ellington Colliery (the "Big E") in Northumberland until its closure in 2005. No. 14 was the last locomotive to be taken out of the mine. This brought an end to centuries of underground mining in the North East of England.
