Spotted this Diesel locomotive coming through Dannevirke on its run back to Wellington. The manufacturer is GE Transportation Systems. Photo was taken on the 22/1/2011.

DFT class Diesel electic's were originally built as the DF class for the old NZR in 1979 (20 units) and 1981 (10 units) by "General Motors" (EMD) they have since been rebuilt and updated on several times including Turbo charging in the early 1990s...when they became DFTs l've lost track of what's happened with them since 2000 but there are now several different sub classes...perhaps their might be a NZ railfan out there who has more up to date information
